Hackintosh!

OK, So you want a mac pro, (who doesn't) but you can't afford one! You can build PC's and like a bit of a challenge. OK, You like a real challenge. But wait it won't look like a mac, well get a second hand G5 case and it will!

Dual 120mm Watercooled Mac, well PC, No Mac!

OK, Here are some quick pictures of my Hackintosh in its very early stages of development. This is work in progress, as soon it will have a dual 120mm Watercooled rad up front. The Aluminium tray was removed from a cooler Master case to house the Mother board. This was pop riveted & screwed into position using the original G5 standoffs. The back panel was pop rivited into position after cutting away the mesh at the back. The main brief is to construct a case that can be upgraded with new motherboards if needed.

The Power Supply will be moving from it's temporary position with air exiting through the rear fan. When the Processor fan unit is removed and the water block replaces it there will be more room, the large 120 mm fan on the power supply will suck air from the waterblock & expell it out of the back. This will leave space for the monster dual 120 rad with dual fans at the front to suck air into the case. Below is the rad with one of two fans.

I managed to get Airport working by using a PCI card & editing the Airport kext, the How to is on the Forums

Watercooling Now Up & Running!

I have the Dual 120 mm Rad & fans up & running using the Aquagate mini & a bit of custom modification! The big 120 fans are speed adjustable and running at around 5v. With all the fans running on slow the processor is just audible and idles at around 28 degrees. Ramp things up a bit and temps plummet around 5 degrees below room temp to about 19 at the moment!

Power Supply Sucks Air off the Aquagate Mini & the Chipset Heatsinks, Blows it out of the back of the Case aided & assisted by the Rear Fan.

Back

Hackintosh now only needs cooling zones on the inside & it will be finished. Also a Quad processor if the price ever drops, like by half at least.

Mathieusbootscreen

Just to finish things off here Gotoh from strangedogs has come up with a rather nice splash screen that can be hacked onto some motherboard bios chips. Much nicer than seeing all the other info that is surplus to requirements when booting!

OVERCLOCK

After a little overclock from 2.13 to 2.66GHz the core Duo starts to come on stream. In fact it cranked up to well over 3 Gigs without issues but in the interests of longevity I settled on 2.66! You can see that Open GL viewer takes advantage of the extra processor speed.

Also note that the the bus speed has increased to 1.33 GHz driving the Kingston 533 memory at 666 without a hitch. I have had the system up at this speed for 4 days at this speed with periods of heavy stress and it has never put a foot wrong. In fact, I have not had a single KP on this Hackintosh!
